gives kids a chance to just be kids. Designed for children ages 7-12 who are in foster care and those adopted from foster care, Camp Hero has all of the stuff you probably remember from summer camp–recreation, activities, crafts, songs, games, and more. It also has some things that were not part of your summer camp experience. For one, our location at the Laguna Beach Christian Retreat Center is literally across the street from the sugar white sand and crystal clear waters of Florida’s Emerald Coast, so sandcastle contests and real beach volleyball games are on the agenda, too. In addition, Camp Hero boasts a minimum camper to staff ratio of 2:1 to make sure a properly trained and vetted adult is always around to help. And while our camp has a camp nurse like most do, we also have a camp counselor on hand to help plan and guide activities and to provide support as needed throughout the week.

The entire camp experience is designed to let the campers experience the fun of being kids all week long with as few worries as possible. So many times, children in foster care literally don’t know what to expect day by day, but while they’re at Camp Hero we want them to wake up each morning anticipating a day filled with fun and to end each day with great memories they can carry with them wherever their journey leads.

Camp Hero 2021 is July 19-23 at the Laguna Beach Christian Retreat Center in Panama City Beach, Florida. Camper application forms are below, as well as applications for adults who wish to serve as counselors. The cost of the camp is $500 and covers all meals, lodging, and camp activities. Camp scholarships are available and will be awarded based need and available funding. If you would like to sponsor camp for one or more attendees, use the donation portal below or visit

Note regarding Camp Hero: Given the state of Florida’s relaxing of all COVID-19 protocols, we do not anticipate any COVID-related effects on Camp Hero. Nevertheless, in the event of any quarantine or other health-related or other directives, Camp Hero would be postponed or transition to an online event to the degree possible. Any unused scholarship funds would be used for other costs related to Camp Hero, for future camps, or for other events and activities by Every Child Home, Inc., to fulfill its mission to provide assistance for children in foster care and prospective adoptive families.
